Raising eyebrows? Then here in Delhi’s Karkardoma, 10 minutes away from the metro station, is a restaurant, named “Anardana – Modern Kitchen and Bar”. Sounds very desi? Yes truly, and indeed you will fall in love with its desi name and its ‘desi-videsi’ style of food. Surprised? Let’s explore!

Let’s go to the kitchen and explore its variety of food. Starting from its Indian appetizer are modern kitchen special, smoothy or crunchy Dahi Kabab, filled with hung yoghurt, and cutlets prepared in traditional tandoori masala. The kebabs are succulent and will simply melt in your mouth with a perfect set of chutney like the all-time favourite mint chutney, Tamarind chutney, ‘thi kha chatpata’ chutney – made up of chilly powder – and last but not the least, the Pizza chutney with its pure desi taste, just like ‘khatta nimbu ka achar’ (sour lemon pickle). Among all the chutneys, the Pizza chutney will grab a special place in your heart. Then comes another dish Mushroom Galouti – smoky mushroom kebabs infused with cloves is another appetiser that you cannot give a miss. Vegans, there are much more delicious cuisines that not just your stomach but your heart will also like; for instance, crispy paneer papri, Lotus galouti, Sabz ke Taj (stuffed with all types of vegetables), Ambi paneer tikka and Shabnami fungi tikka that is absolutely delicious or platable – actually made up of mushroom, it is smooth as well as crispy and the taste will remain in your mouth forever.
Now its time to try Anardana special Shikanji, that will really quench your thirsty throat with its perfect ‘kala khata’ flavour, a truly refreshing drink with a pinch of salt, served with a lemon slice. That’s just no it! Here are two more Shikanji – one is special guava, which tastes exactly like its name and the other is the ‘Imli ka boota’, made up of tamarind pulp, mixed with ingredients like the chat masala and served with a lemon slice.
What is in the main course? Take your chair and get ready to grab a full-fledged Indian vegetarian cuisine. In the Indian main course, you will get all the desi type food, which you will crave for more. Starting from the most lovable Punjabi dish, Dal Makhani, the most served dish in a Punjabi ‘dhaba’. But here, it tastes really different from what you have been having so far. It is very creamy, mixed with light spices and garnished with butter or cream, which will absolutely rule your heart. Apart from Dal Makhani there are much more dishes in the Indian side like Paneer Khurchan, Papar ki Multani sabzi. You can have it with naan or tandoori roti and it comes with the welcoming sweet salad.
After, all these high profile Indian cuisine, there is also the international or oriental starter which does not lose its authenticity and will take your taste buds to another level – the Honey chilli potatoes, Veg Manchurian Dry, Chilli paneer dry, Shanghai veg dim sum, Falafel pita pocket which tastes like Indian Pizza and many more.
Mushroom and cheese roll comes under the oriental starter; not a new type of dish though but is very simple, crispy from outside, and chewy from inside.
The surprise element is all here for kids as they can have a crispy, crunchy, buttery, Cheezy pizza assemble with all the vegetables. I am sure you are going to fall in love with its crispy part. But beware! Don’t bite your finger.
Non-Vegetarian, Don’t be disheartened! Anardana has special recipes and delicious cuisines for you too, just be ready to pounce on to it. Here’s the Gunpowder Chicken Tikka – char-grilled marinated chicken in podi spice mix. The generous layering of podi mix on the tikka and the tender chicken well-grilled is just the way you want your chicken tikkas to be. Others are the Banarsi chicken tikka, Reshmi chicken tikka, Punjabi bhatti da Murg, among others.
Alright! With your lunch or dinner done right, let’s have some dessert – A sweet, creamy, chocolaty, smoky brownie filled with ice cream, is the first thing that one should really go for.
Seems like, dessert is the last thing which really puts our cravings to a halt, but here is something else that will give you a refreshing feeling and it is the ‘Pan shots’, which is absolutely a mouth refreshing shot, made up of milk with the essence of pan.
Also, don’t miss the Kebab festival — both veg and non-veg — that will go on till October 15.
Veg section – Soya shami kebab, sunahari chatpati kebab, ambi paneer kebab, lotus ke galouti kebab, subz ke taj and many more.
