Ace designer Rajesh Pratap Singh, known for his androgynous clothing and use of handloom in unique ways, says that he is someone who never follows trends and does not really care about it.
“I don’t follow trends and this I always have been doing for the last 15 years,” Singh said when told how his androgynous clothing was being seen as a big hit in 2018.
Asked whether it would be a trend for the coming season, the designer said: “May be it’s trendy today, but I don’t really care. This is what I do.”
Singh showcased a smart deconstructed collection in association with Tencel, the sustainable fabric. He presented an Indian contemporary line wherein the collection was handwoven with Tencel fabric.
Talking about his colourful line, he said: “People will always like colour and this fibre takes on dyes beautifully whether you print it or you dye it. The absorption is beautiful. It has a certain shine which is amazing.”
“I thought the colour will be beautiful rather than just doing a monochrome. I wanted to do a lot of colours as I think it’s an interesting way of doing it as mass produced fashion will always have colour.”
When asked whether he would ever design for Bollywood films and Singh said: “No”, although his clothes are a big hit among celebrities.
“Lot of people are there and they are doing great job. I am not one of them. At the moment I will do what I want to do,” he added.
