A rising hot trend of belly button piercing

No great wonder! Women love to adorn themselves in all ways possible. Probably that is the reason they have more than 50 different types of piercing options to choose from. From traditional nose and ear piercing to modern lip and eyebrow piercing, this trend is inspiring youth globally. By far the most popular kind among all is belly button piercing.

The release of MTV’s hit music video ‘Cryin’ in 1993, featuring Alicia Silverstone gave a spark to this form of naval adornment.  The flaunting of her pierced naval in the album drove gals around the world crazy. That was the beginning of the trend. With time it became a symbol of femininity and sexuality. Today, you may choose from more than 2,000 stunning belly button rings to beautify the naval.

The three most common naval piercings placement options are:

Upper rim – At the top of the naval ring

Lower rim – At the bottom of the naval ring

Sides – At the horizontal left or right in the middle of upper and lower rim

Taking good care of piercing is very crucial to avoid health risks and fast and painless recovery. It may take four to twelve months to heal completely. Follow the steps:

  • Choose the piercing studio that is clean and sanitised. All the instruments should be properly sterilised with an auto clave.
  • Take opinion of the piercer in advance whether you should go for naval piercing or not. If you are getting it done, ensure that the piercer wears fresh gloves while doing it.
  • Wear non-toxic metal jewellery made up of surgical steel, 14 K gold, niobium or titanium to avoid allergic reactions.
  • After getting your belly button pierced, clean the area three to four times a day with saline water that is readily available on pharmacies or you can make it home by dissolving one teaspoon of sea salt to eight ounces of warm water.
  • Wash your hands first before you start the cleaning process.
  • Take a fresh small disposable paper cup and pour just enough saline water in the naval that fully sinks in the piercing. Make sure to use a fresh cup each time. Turn the cup upside down on your belly button to permit the saline water pass through the piercing cleaning it up.
  • Dip a Q-Tip into the saline solution and gently remove any excess dried fluid or blood going around both the holes of piercing.

Important– Keep a close check on your piercing until it fully heals. If some infection, swelling, redness or discharge takes place, consult your doctor or piercing studio immediately. Don’t touch the fresh piercing at all except while cleaning. Let it breathe fresh. Wear loose cotton clothes to cover it up and to avoid friction. Don’t bend at waist and prevent irritation. Take shower instead of bathing to evade bacteria formation. Stay away from swimming pool, hot tubs and other water bodies until your piercing gets fully cured. The contaminated water may cause infection. Don’t wear heavy hanging on the belly piercing for a long time. Get it changed with some light weight jewellery piece once you are back home.

Fashion has become a standard when we talk about body ornamentations. Through it, models and Bollywood divas influence the youth captivatingly. It can be well seen with this trend of belly button piercing. So, what are you waiting for!
