Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday paid tributes to former chief minister Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna on his death anniversary by showering flowers on the statue of the freedom fighter installed at Yojna Bhawan.

Addressing a gathering on the occasion, Yogi Adityanath said, “Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna had to resign as chief minister due to his differences with the Congress party when it attempted to strangle democracy in this country. But Bahuguna ji never gave up on his values and ideals.”

“Born in the present-day Pauri district of Uttarakhand, Bahuguna came to Prayagraj for further studies after his schooling in his native village,” Yogi recounted, tracing  the late leader’s journey. “During the pursuit of higher education, he became part of the national freedom movement. He took part in various movements, including the Quit India Movement. Post independence he gave his able and brilliant leadership to the state as chief minister while associating himself with many social and political activities in independent India,” he said.

Deputy Chief Ministers of the state Brajesh Pathak and Keshav Prasad Maurya, Finance Minister Suresh Khanna, and Chief Secretary Durgashankar Mishra were present on the occasion.
