Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday said that yoga was a “holistic approach to well being” and has physical, emotional and spiritual dimensions.

In his address after inaugurating the centennial year celebration at The Yoga Institute, in Mumbai, one of the oldest schools of yoga in the world, Naidu said the institution has played a key role in teaching people how to combine work, knowledge and devotion.

“Yoga is a holistic approach to well being. It has physical, emotional and spiritual dimensions and has been a guiding philosophy for a number of variants in Buddhism and Jainism as well,” Naidu said.

“Viewed from purely physical aspect, yoga has proved to be a very powerful set of graded exercises which can be practiced by all from children to youth and adults and even elderly. Studies have shown that many psychosomatic disorders can be healed through Yoga,” he said.

“If work, knowledge and devotion are combined, the work we do gets transformed into something quite extraordinary. The Yoga Institute has combined these three aspects have been pace setters,” he said further.

He further credited the institute for making yoga a “true global phenomenon”.

“Congratulate the Yoga Institute which has been rendering yeomen service by training instructors and providing excellent services to humanity.  Yoga Institute’s contribution has indeed made yoga a true global phenomenon,” he said.
