An executive engineer of PWD was among three officials of the department killed on Monday when the vehicle in they were travelling in plunged into a deep gorge in the Doda district of Jammu. A superintending engineer critically injured in the mishap was shifted to Jammu for treatment in the medical college hospital.
The police said that the mishap occurred at Assar on the Batote–Kishtwar highway where visibility was poor due to bad weather. Those who died on the spot after the car skidded down 200 ft have been identified as executive engineer Rafiq Sheikh,
It’s a deeply saddening tragic accident of a Bolero car of R&B Department which took place at Assar Doda in which XEN PWD R&B Rafiq Sheikh, assistant executive engineer KK Sharma and driver Hafeez. Superintending engineer of Doda, Suresh Kumar was critically injured.
Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh, in whose Parliamentary constituency Doda the accident cite falls, was among the first to speak to the District Administration for launching immediate rescue operations.
The minister tweeted, “Just now spoken to DC Doda, Sh Vishesh Paul Mahajan. Sad news of tragic road accident killing 3 diligently performing R&B officials…XEN Sh Rafiq Sheikh, AEE Sh KK Sharma and driver Sh Hafeez. Meanwhile, Superintending Engineer Sh Suresh Kumar being shifted to Jammu for treatment of injuries. My sincere condolences…huge loss to the Department as well as the society.”
Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha expressed condolences over the tragedy. “Directed the district administration to provide all possible assistance”, he tweeted.
