World Environment Day: Government, entertainment industry to spread message on extensive scale

As the World Environment Day (WED) would be celebrated across the globe on June 5, Wednesday, Union Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Prakash Javadekar, on Tuesday, exhorted the citizens to celebrate the day with verve and lot of enthusiasm. He also informed that the government has launched a programme where people would be encouraged to plant a sapling and click a selfie with it. Then they would have to post the selfie with the hashtag #SelfieWithSapling.

“Environment Day is celebrated across the globe on June 5. I’m sure the people of India will also celebrate it with lot of enthusiasm. We’ve launched a programme for people to plant a sapling, click a selfie with it and post it as #SelfieWithSapling,” said Javadekar.

“Kapil Dev and Jackie Shroff will also participate and plant a sapling tomorrow (Wednesday) at Paryavaran Bhawan at 10:30 am. Several other similar programmes will be held in the next 2-3 days where many more people will take part,” added Javadekar.

Prakash Javadekar had taken charge as the Cabinet Minister and Babul Supriyo as the Minister of State of the Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) on June 1.

In line with the theme, Beat Air Pollution, the Bhamla Foundation (a Mumbai-based NGO), in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment had launched an initiative in the presence of actor and UN Ambassador for Environment Dia Mirza and lyricist Swanand Kirkire. It also released the song ‘Hawa Aane De’ to mark the World Environment Day.

The song features Akshay Kumar, Rajkumar Rao, Vicky Kaushal, Kapil Sharma, Shiamak Davar and has been sung by Shaan, Shankar Mahadevan, Sunidhi Chauhan, Shiamak Davar and Kapil Sharma.
