The Delhi Police Special Cell on Thursday arrested wanted Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Javed Mattoo from the national capital following a joint search operation with the anti-terror National Investigation Agency (NIA).
Mattoo, a resident of Jammu and Kashmir’s Sopore district had a bounty of Rs 10 lakh on his head. He is the last surviving A++ category terrorist from Jammu and Kashmir.
The police said that they have also recovered a pistol, magazine, and a stolen vehicle from Mattoo’s possession.
“With the coordination of Special Cell of Delhi Police and central agencies, Javed Mattoo, an A++ category terrorist who has a bounty of ₹10 lakh on him, was arrested today…After taking him into police custody remand, we will further action against him,” Special Commissioner of Delhi Police HGS Dhaliwal said.
Mattoo is accused of killing five police personnel in various incidents. He was also allegedly involved in at least five grenade attacks on security personnel in Jammu and Kashmir.
He is reportedly the brother of Rayees, whose video of hoisting tricolor at his Sopore residence on August 15 last year had gone viral on social media.
Rayees had also urged Mattoo to give up violence and come back home, saying the situation in the Valley had changed.
“My brother became one (a terrorist) in 2009, we don’t know anything about him after that…If he is alive, I urge him to come back…The situation has changed, Pakistan can’t do anything…Hum Hindustani the, hain aur rahenge,” he had said.
