Poll violence in West Bengal’s Baligram region of Murshidabad left a voter dead on Tuesday.
The man, identified as Tiyarul Sheikh, was seriously injured when he was hit by sticks during a clash between workers of Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Congress.
He was rushed to the hospital but the doctors couldn’t save him.
Congress blamed the TMC over the death. The TMC claimed it was a murder due to personal enmity.
In another incident of poll-related violence three TMC workers identified as Tujam Ansari, Masadul Islam and Mallick Mondal were injured after a crude bomb was hurled at them in Domkal.
According to reports, the injured includes the husband of Domkal’s councillor. All injured were shifted to Murshidabad Medical college hospital for treatment, the police said.
Unidentified men are seen hurling bombs near polling booth number 27, 28 in Rani Nagar in a video which surfaced online.
The perpetrators were wearing helmets.
In a third incident, a couple of bike-borne miscreants hurled bombs outside a polling station in Maldaha South constituency’s Kaliachawk.
West Bengal has been in the news for poll violence ever since the start of the Lok Sabha elections. Violence was reported in the first phases and second phase of polling.
Four days ago, a poll officer in-charge of Nadia went missing after he went out for lunch.
Though a police investigation is on, Arnab Roy has not been traced yet and his two mobile phones are switched off.
He was in-charge of the EVMs and VVPATs in Ranaghat parliamentary constituency.
Polling in West Bengal is underway in Murshidabad, Balurghat, Maldaha Uttar, Maldaha Dakshin, Jangipur constituencies.
