The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Saturday nabbed a police Sub-Inspector (SI) Baljit Singh red handed for accepting a bribe of Rs 7 lakh.
Disclosing this today, a spokesperson of the VB said the accused SI Baljit Singh, posted as Traffic In-charge, Tarn Taran, has been arrested on the complaint of Sharnjit Singh Jimmi, resident of Model Town, Kharar, SAS Nagar district.

He added that the accused was earlier suspended in a Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) case by the Police Department.

“The complainant had approached the VB and alleged that the above said police official was demanding a bribe of Rs 10 lakh in lieu of getting exemption to his father and mother from appearances in a court case. He further informed that the accused police official has asked to provide this bribe money in two instalments of Rs 7 lakh and Rs 3 lakh,” the spokesperson said.
The VB spokesman said that after verifying this complaint, a VB team laid a trap and the accused police official was caught red handed while taking a bribe money of Rs 7 lakh as a first installment in the presence of two official witnesses.
He informed that a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused SI at the VB Police Station, Flying Squad-1, Punjab at SAS Nagar. Further investigation was under progress.
