Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday suffered a big setback when former MP Devendra Singh Yadav, a close aide of the Yadav family, left the party and joined the BJP.

Only two days ago, two MLAs from Agra left the SP and joined the BJP.

Deputy Chief Minister Brijesh Pathak and BJP state president Bhupendra Chaudhary were present in Kasganj on the occasion.

They gave membership of the BJP to former SP MP Devendra Singh Yadav.

Yadav has a long political career. He has held important positions by winning various elections since 1976.

He was elected twice to the Lok Sabha from Etah in 1999 and 2004 and two times as an MLA from Pataili seat in 1989 and 1996.
