Union Minister Rameshwar Teli inaugurates ESIC Hospital in Assam


Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment Rameswar Teli inaugurated a 20-bed ESIC Hospital and laid the foundation stone for a 100-bed ESIC Hospital in Tinsukia, Assam, on Thursday.

During the event, Teli emphasised the government’s commitment to expediting the development of other ESI projects in Assam to ensure easy access to medical services for insured workers and their dependents across the country.

The ceremony was attended by Sanjoy Kishan, the Minister of Tea Tribes & Adivasi Welfare and Labour Welfare Department, Government of Assam, along with Suren Phukan, MLA, Digboi, Assam.

The ESIS Hospital in Tinsukia, established in 1982 as a 20-bed hospital under the state government’s ESI Scheme, was recently taken over by ESIC with plans to upgrade it to a 100-bed hospital. With a project cost of Rs 136 crore, this hospital aims to serve over 3 lakh ESI beneficiaries in areas like Dibrugarh, Majuli, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Jorhat, Sibasagar, and Golaghat and is equipped with modern medical facilities.

The Employees’ State Insurance Scheme was introduced in Assam on September 28, 1958, and is now fully operational in 31 districts, providing social security to 2.9 lakh insured workers and 11 lakh beneficiaries. ESIC administers the scheme through its regional and branch offices, hospitals, and dispensaries across the state.

ESIC is a leading social security organisation offering comprehensive benefits such as medical care and cash benefits for employment injuries, sickness, and death. Covering over 3.43 crore family units and serving more than 13 crore beneficiaries nationwide, ESIC’s infrastructure includes dispensaries, hospitals, medical and dental colleges, nursing colleges, and regional offices spread across 661 districts.
