Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reportedly expressed his displeasure over Indore MLA Akash Vijayvargiya, who assaulted a civic official in full public view with a cricket bat, and termed such kind of behaviour as “unacceptable”.
The Prime Minister conveyed a clear message to all the party members on Tuesday that any kind of misbehaviour that brings down party’s name is unacceptable, BJP MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy was quoted as saying by ANI.
Modi, who convened a BJP Parliamentary meeting, said that action must be taken if someone has done something wrong and that it was applicable on everyone.
Condemning the act, Modi said, “beta kisi ka bhi ho, aise logo ki party see nikal dena chahiye” (regardless of whose son he is, such people should be sacked from the party).
“We do not want any leaders who spoil the party’s image. Whosoever’s son, such leaders should be removed from the party,” he added.
Modi also slammed party leaders for giving a rousing welcome to Akash Vijayvargiya after he was released from jail and said: “Those who welcomed him, such leaders should also be sacked from the party.”
PM Modi’s remarks come a week after BJP national General Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya’s son Akash assaulted a civic official in full public view while opposing demolition of a house.
Akash was sent to judicial custody for a fortnight for the crime and was later granted bail.
After his arrest, the Indore sessions court had rejected Vijayvargiya’s bail plea, saying he will have to approach the special court at Bhopal, set up to handle cases against legislators.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also had sought a report on the incident.
