Two firearms suppliers with 10 pistols nabbed

Two firearms suppliers have been nabbed by the Special Cell of the Delhi Police after an encounter that took place in Southeast Delhi.

The accused, identified as Raja Gautam (26) and Pintu Kashyap (19), both natives of Uttar Pradesh, have been arrested along with ten semi-automatic pistols and four cartridges.

The Police said the accused have revealed that they had sourced all the recovered firearms and ammunition from Burhanpur, Madhya Pradesh.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Special Cell, Pramod Singh Kushwaha said that a team of Special Cell, Southern Range led by Inspector Shiv Kumar and Inspector Pawan Kumar under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Attar Singh, has busted the interstate firearms supplier gang.

 The DCP said that in pursuit of constant drive launched by the Special Cell against the illegal firearms trafficking activities in Delhi-NCR, concerted efforts were being made to identify the members of these syndicates.

A team of Special Cell was having information about the activities of members of such a syndicate indulging in firearms trafficking in Delhi-NCR from MP. Manual surveillance was mounted to develop the information about the members of this syndicate.

After continuous efforts, specific information was received by the police that two members of said firearms syndicate namely Raja Gautam and Pintu Kashyap would come near Veterinary hospital, Tughlaqabad village in Delhi, to deliver the consignment of firearms.

Accordingly, a raiding party was formed and a trap was laid at the spot. As the accused reached the spot, the police surrounded them and asked to surrender. Meanwhile, accused Raja Gautam suddenly whipped out a pistol and fired at the police team.

The police team also fired in self-defense and overpowered the accused persons. During the interrogation, both the accused disclosed that they have been indulging in the supply of illegal firearms for the last five years and have supplied over 400 pistols in the national capital itself.
