Tremors felt in Himachal’s Kangra

An earthquake measuring 3.1 on the Richter scale shook Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district on Tuesday, the meteorological department said. This was the third time a quake hit the hill state this July.

No loss of life or damage to property has been reported.

The earthquake was felt at 1.18 a.m., according to the meteorological department. The epicentre of the quake was Kangra district at a depth of 10 km.

Earlier also, the district was hit twice by mild quakes. A low-intensity quake measuring 2.9 and a moderate quake measuring 3.8 on the Richter Scale hit Kangra on July 25 and July 27, respectively.

The Kangra valley in Himachal Pradesh witnessed the most devastating earthquake in 1905 that left more than 20,000 people dead.
