Senior railway officers will travel in all classes on trains to take account of the ground reality related to amenities and others, an official statement said on Friday.

The inspection will help officials to get the first hand information on the kind of amenities and facilities being provided by the railways to the passengers on station and in trains, it said, adding that Railway Board Members, General Managers, and Divisional Railway Managers will do this once in every quarter preferably on longer routes so that they can spend the maximum time on a train to assess deficiencies.

In a meeting last month, the Railways Ministry had decided to put in a mechanism in place where the top officials would undertake journeys in sleeper and air-conditioned classes to take stock of the condition of the coaches, cleanliness, amenities and other facilities.
