Three terrorists killed in Shopian encounter

Three terrorists were killed in an encounter in Jammu-Kashmir’s Shopian on Friday.

A gunfight erupted between terrorists and security forces in Dragad Sugan area of Shopian earlier this morning. The forces had launched a cordon and search operation following a tip-off about the presence of terrorists.

According to the police, terrorists opened fire at security forces while they were carrying out searches leading to the encounter.

Reports say that the three terrorists are believed to be top commanders of Hizbul Mujahideen and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). The identities of the slain terrorists are yet to be ascertained.

During the gunfight, a Para Commando of the Indian Army was reportedly injured.

Security forces recovered arms and ammunition from the site.

Two terrorists were killed on Thursday in an encounter with security forces in the Sopore area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

On 28 May, security forces killed two terrorists in an encounter in the forests of Kokernag in Anantnag district.

Police said the security forces launched the cordon and search operation based on specific intelligence input about the presence of militants in the Kachwan forest area in the south Kashmir district.

The search party had sealed all exit points to ensure the terrorists did not escape. The bodies of the militants were recovered along with arms and ammunition.
