The last date for submission of entries to The Statesman Awards for Rural Reporting and the Cushrow Irani Prize for Environmental Reporting has been extended to 20 August 2024.
Instituted in 1978, The Statesman Awards for Rural Reporting celebrate developmental and investigative reporting from rural India published in 2023 in any newspaper, periodical or website. The entries may be in any language but those in a language other than English must be accompanied by an English translation. Three prizes – of Rs 15,000, Rs 10,000 and Rs 7,500 – are on offer.
The Cushrow Irani Prize for Environmental Reporting is given for exceptional reportage on the environment published in 2023 in any newspaper, periodical or website. It carries a cash prize of Rs 25,000. Entries may be in any language but those in a language other than English must be accompanied by an English translation.
Entries must be marked “Rural Reporting” or “Environmental Reporting” and sent in the form of original clippings to “The Awards Committee, The Statesman Ltd., Statesman House, 4 Chowringhee Square, Kolkata 700001.
Entries may also be sent by email with “Rural Reporting” or “Environmental Reporting” in the subject line to editor@thestatesman.com and must be accompanied by clear scans of the published articles. The URL may be sent in the case of articles published on a website. Where scans of printed articles are sent by e-mail, applicants are advised to post the original clippings as well.
