Tightening the noose around gangster Dawood Ibrahim, the Thane Police on Wednesday slapped the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against his brother Iqbal Kaskar, aide Chhota Shakeel and others, police said.
Betting racket operator Pankaj Gangar, nabbed from Mumbai’s Borivali last month has also been booked under MCOCA, reports said.
All the accused – including Kaskar, Israr Sayed and Mumtaz Shaikh – were arrested on September 18 from Mumbai in connection with an extortion case of a prominent Thane-based realtor and grabbing four flats in a prime location besides Rs three million in cash.
Police had earlier sought their custody to probe the involvement of absconding mafia don Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar in the extortion racket run by his younger brother, Iqbal Kaskar, since 2013.
The Thane police’s Anti-Extortion Cell are also on the lookout for some gunmen from Bihar who had threatened the complainant builder on behalf of Iqbal Kaskar, and for the person who had supplied the weapons to them.
