Terrorists lob grenade on security forces in J-K’s Sopore, two cops injured

Two policemen were injured after terrorists in Sopore lobbed a grenade at a security forces party during a cordon and search operation on Thursday. The injured policemen include an officer.

According to reports, the terrorists opened fire at the security forces who had launched a search operation following inputs of their presence in the area.

According to the police, the terrorists hurled the grenade at the Main Chowk of the township located in Baramulla district of north Kashmir. The terrorists were at the time holed up inside a house.

The Station House Officer (SHO) of Dangiwacha police station and his security guard were the two cops injured.

“Both the policemen have been shifted to Srinagar for specialized treatment. The operation against the militants is going on,” a police officer said.

The area was cordoned off and the operation was on to flush out the terrorists. As a security measure, authorities have suspended mobile Internet service in Sopore town.

In another incident in Jammu-Kashmir, a CRPF jawan shot dead three of his colleagues at the 187th battalion camp of the force in the Battal Ballian area in Udhampur.

The incident happened at around 10 pm. Constable Ajit Kumar, the jawan who allegedly shot his three colleagues from his service rifle, also shot himself. He was rushed for treatment to a nearby milatry hospital.
