Commerce and Industry Minister Suresh Prabhu on Monday took charge of Civil Aviation Ministry, officials said on Saturday.
Prabhu got the additional charge on Saturday after Telugu Desam Party (TDP) pulled out his ministers from the NDA government leading to the resignation of Ashok Gajapathi Raju as the Civil Aviation minister.
Raju’s resignation was accepted by President Ram Nath Kovind.
Along with Raju, another TDP MP YS Chowdary too resigned from the Council of Ministers after party chief and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu pulled out of the Modi government, but decided to remain part of the NDA.
The two TDP ministers met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and handed over their resignation letters.
Earlier, Modi held the charge for a short while before handing it over to Prabhu.
