The Goa unit of BJP has planned to start a statewide campaign to create awareness about the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), a BJP legislator said on Tuesday.
“We will conduct meetings in constituencies right from the booth level upwards to make people aware of the factual situation about the CAA, so that they do not end up being misguided by others,” Subhash Shirodkar, BJP MLA told reporters.
Right after its introduction in Lok Sabha, the CAB was being targetted by different sections of the society. After getting a nod from the Rajya Sabha to become an Act, the CAB attracted a nationwide protest which turned violent at many places.
Protests against CAA that were earlier confined to the northeast, have swept the country after several protesters, including students, clashed with the police in Delhi’s Jamia Milia Islamia on December 15.
The amended law seeks to provide citizenship to Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi and Christian communities who have faced religious persecution in Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan and have arrived in India on or before December 31, 2014.
