Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai on Wednesday said that the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) does not maintain specific data with respect to lynching incidents in the country.
He was replying to a question in the Rajya Sabha on whether incidents of mob lynching have increased in the last six months in the country.
The MoS said that State governments were responsible for prevention, detection and investigation of crimes and for prosecuting the criminals through their law enforcement agencies.
He further said that the ‘Police’ and ‘Public Order’ are State subjects under the seventh schedule of the Constitution.
