Congress President Sonia Gandhi is being treated for a fungal infection along with other post-Covid symptoms at the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi, according to Jairam Ramesh, Congress General Secretary and new incharge of its Communication Department.

In a press release here, Ramesh said Sonia had been admitted to the hospital on 12 June when she developed profuse bleeding from the nose following the Covid infection.

She was immediately put under treatment and underwent a related follow-up procedure yesterday morning.

A fungal infection in her lower respiratory tract was also detected upon admission for which she was now being treated.

”She continues to be under close observation and treatment,” said Jairam who was appointed as the party’s chief spokesperson last night replacing Randeep Singh Surjewala.

Sonia has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate on 23 June in the National Herald money-laundering case.

Her son and former Congress President Rahul Gandhi is already being questioned by the probe agency and his next deposition before the ED is scheduled for Monday.
