Former Congress president and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi was admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in the National Capital on Wednesday for treatment of a viral respiratory infection, hospital authorities informed.

Sources have informed Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the Congress’ general secretary in-charge of Uttar Pradesh Congress, did not attend the party’s ongoing ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ in the BJP-ruled state as she was scheduled to join the Yatra earlier, owing to her mother’s ill health.

According to sources, on Wednesday, both Priyanka and party MP Rahul Gandhi returned to Delhi from Uttar Pradesh where the Bharat Jodo Yatra is currently at.

The UPA chairperson was last seen in public on the Congress Foundation Day on December 28. Prior to that, the former Congress president participated in the Bharat Jodo Yatra in Delhi on December 24.
