A soldier of the Indian Army was killed and two were wounded on the Line of Control (LoC) in the Keran sector of Kupwara after Pakistan troops targeted a border post on Wednesday morning.
The soldier identified as Rajesh Khatri was airlifted from the LoC in North Kashmir to the military hospital in Srinagar where he succumbed to his injuries.
Police said that the Pakistani troops opened fire at an Indian Army patrol.
The incident of unprovoked firing by Pakistan troops comes just a few hours after the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday, near the LOC, urged India and Pakistan to shun border skirmishes and concentrate on development in their respective areas.
Meanwhile, the Army, CRPF and J-K police in a joint operation captured a Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) terrorist identified as Aadil Hussain Bhat at Bijbehara in the South Kashmir. This is the third terrorist to have been captured in the past fortnight.
Earlier, a Lashkar-e- Tayiba (LeT) terrorist was captured in Sopore area of North Kashmir.
