Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) President Sharad Pawar was rushed to the Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai after he developed fresh abdominal pains, a top party leader said on Tuesday.

Sharad Pawar has been unwell since Sunday and this sudden development has sparked fresh concerns about the health of the Nationalist Congress Party Chief.

Nawab Malik, NCP spokesperson and Maharashtra Minority Affairs Minister, said that Pawar, who was due to be taken to the hospital on Wednesday, was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday “since he is experiencing some pain again”.

As per the previous plans revealed by Malik on Monday, Pawar, 80, was scheduled to undergo an endoscopy and surgery for gallbladder stones on Wednesday.

Earlier, the octogenarian but agile leader was on blood thinner medication, which has been stopped now due to this issue, said Malik.

Several prominent personalities, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, singer Lata Mangeshkar and others, have enquired after Pawar’s health and wished him a speedy recovery.

Currently, the political atmosphere in the state is uncertain after an SUV, filled with at least 20 gelatin sticks was found abandoned outside Antilia, the lavish multi-storied home of billionaire industrialist Mukesh Ambani, on February 25.

Since then there have been several developments due to which the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) allies of Shiv Sena-Nationalist Congress Party-Congress are under fire from the Opposition BJP.

The BJP has demanded the resignation of Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh, who belongs to the NCP as former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh has levelled charges of corruption against Deshmukh.

Also, there have been reports that Union Home Minister Amit Shah had a “secret meeting” with Sharad Pawar in Ahmadabad.
