Union Home Minister Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday congratulated the Delhi and Gujarat police for a series of successful operations to curb the illegal drug trade, stating that the Central government is committed to its mission of a drug-free Bharat.

“I congratulate the Delhi Police for their series of successful operations seizing drugs worth Rs 13,000 crore, including the recent one in collaboration with the Gujarat Police, where they recovered cocaine worth Rs 5,000 crore. The fight against drugs and the narcotics trade will continue with no laxity,” stated the Home Minister in a post on the social media platform X.

He added that the Modi Government is committed to building a drug-free Bharat by protecting the youth from the scourge of drugs.

According to the Delhi Police, under the Drug-Free India campaign, the force has seized 1,289 kg of cocaine and 40 kg of hydroponic marijuana from Thailand, worth Rs 13,000 crore, in October alone.

The massive drug seizure followed a series of raids in the national capital and Gujarat. On Sunday, the Delhi Police, in collaboration with the Gujarat Police, seized 518 kilograms of cocaine valued at approximately Rs 5,000 crore in the international market from Ankleshwar, Gujarat.

This seizure is part of a larger ongoing investigation that has so far led to the recovery of 1,289 kg of cocaine and 40 kg of hydroponic marijuana, an advanced type of cannabis reportedly sourced from Thailand.

Earlier, on October 10, the Delhi Police seized around 200 kilograms of cocaine from an unused shop in the Ramesh Nagar area of West Delhi.

Similarly, on October 2, during a raid, the police seized 500 kg of cocaine valued at over Rs 500 crore from a warehouse in the Mahipalpur area of South Delhi.

According to police officials, the drugs seized in all three raids belong to the same cartel. The narcotic substances were manufactured in Gujarat and supplied to a pharmaceutical solutions company based in the Delhi-NCR region.

From there, the substances were distributed across Delhi and other locations in India, as well as potentially internationally.

The individuals arrested in Gujarat are believed to be key figures in this network, which police suspect has been operating for a considerable period.
