SC notice to Karnataka deputy CM Shivakumar in a DA case

The Supreme Court, on Monday, issued a notice to Karnataka’s deputy chief minister, DK Shivakumar, on a plea by the Central Bureau of Investigation challenging the June 2023 Karnataka high court order staying its investigation in an alleged corruption and disproportionate assets case.

Issuing the notice, a bench of Justice Aniruddha Bose and Justice Bela M Trivedi refused to put on hold the high court judgment challenged by the CBI. “We are not staying it ex parte,” Justice Bose said as the additional solicitor general, SV Raju, urged the bench to stay the high court order.

Appearing for the investigating agency, Raju told the bench that 90% of the investigation in the case was already over and urged the bench to stay the high court order. The high court had stayed the sanction granted by the state government for investigation against Shivakumar’s assets.
