Rs. 5,000-crore defamation suit filed against Singhvi; know why

Reliance Group led by Anil Ambani has filed a Rs. 5,000-crore defamation suit against Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi, a report in Jansatta said.

The suit has been filed in connection with Singhvi’s allegation that government was pushing Rafale deal to benefit “PM Narendra Modi’s businessmen friends”.

Earlier, Reliance’s spokesperson had said that the defamation suit was filed because Abhishek Manu Singhvi’s claim was a malicious and derogatory.

Congress president-elect Rahul Gandhi had said that self-interest of PM Modi was behind inking of the $8.7 billion deal. He too had accused the PM of extending benefits to entrepreneurs through Dassault-Reliance aerospace park deal.

What is Dassault-Reliance deal

French company Dassault Aviation SA will invest around Rs. 760 crore in its joint venture with Anil Ambani’s Reliance Group to manufacture components for its aircraft. The Reliance Group will make a similar investment in the joint venture.

The joint venture, Dassault Reliance Aerospace Ltd, in which the French company holds a 49% stake, will make components for the Legacy Falcon 2000 Series of civil aircraft and be part of its global supply chain, the firm said in a statement. Production will begin from 2018.
