‘Right to employment’: Congress party’s big plank for Lok Sabha elections

In a major poll plank ahead of 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Opposition Congress on Wednesday announced it will bring ‘Right to employment’ for the youth if elected to power in 2024.

This was the third major poll promise made by the Congress party after caste census and MSP law.

The Congress party claimed that despite lakhs of vacant posts in government sector, the ruling Narendra Modi has not intention to fill them.

“Modi government has notl intention to give jobs to the youth. Forget new jobs, it is not filling the already vacant posts in various government departments,” the Congress party said.

Citing official government figures, the Congress claimed that 9,64000 posts are vacant across 78 departments, including 2.93 lakhs in Railways.

The Opposition party also accused the Modi government of promoting the culture of contract system in government jobs. “It gives neither job security not the respect,” it said.

While a detailed announcement on the “Right to employment” is yet to be made, the party said that it will bring the law similar to ‘Right to Education’.

Earlier today, the Congress Manifesto Committee headed by former finance minister P Chidambram presented the draft manifesto to party chief Mallikarjun Kharge.

“Our Draft Manifesto based on “NYAY” for the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections is ready and was presented to me, today, by the Congress Manifesto Committee,” Kharge said.

He further added that the Congress party is committed to the welfare and development of the country.

“From Green Revolution & White Revolution to Building PSUs, from Telecom & IT Revolution to Liberalisation, from Inclusive Governance to Rights Based paradigm — Indian National Congress has always been committed to the welfare and development of India,” he said.
