Haryana Transport Minister, Mool Chand Sharma took a jibe on Arvind Kejriwal and claimed that the people of Haryana have the right over the water of the Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal.
“Kejriwal calls himself son of Haryana, if he really means it then he should get the SYL water to the state”, said the minister while speaking to reporters in Chandigarh on Wednesday.
Sharma said the Aam Aadmi Party government is in both Delhi and Punjab. “If Arvind Kejriwal is so concerned for Haryana, then he should strive to get the rights of Haryana and SYL water from Punjab. Today there is an acute shortage of water in south Haryana. Apart from this, the state also needs water for agriculture; we should get our share of water, he added.
The minister went on to highlight that the clean water of Yamuna is used by the Delhi Government and the water from the treatment plant is released to Haryana. “Because of this people of Gurugram, Faridabad, Mewat, Palwal get contaminated water. Cancer patients are increasing in these districts because of this contaminated water,” he said.
Earlier on Tuesday, Supreme Court had ask the chief ministers of Punjab and Haryana to meet and negotiate an amicable settlement of the vexed issue of Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL) canal.
