Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is slated to visit Assam on Thursday, where he will address public gatherings in both Barpeta and Kokrajhar.
His itinerary also includes speaking engagements at a Karyakarta Sammelan in Kokrajhar. In lead up to the Lok Sabha elections, Singh’s presence is expected to uplift the morale of party workers.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has expressed optimism regarding the NDA’s prospects in the upcoming polls, projecting a win of 11.5 seats, with potential to secure 12. However, the overarching objective remains capturing all 14 seats in the state, Sarma emphasised.
In the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will contest in 11 out of the 14 seats, while its allies, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), will vie for the Barpeta, Dhubri, and Kokrajhar seats, respectively.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in the midst of his third Lok Sabha election campaign, recently concluded a two-day visit to the BJP-governed state. The Lok Sabha polls are scheduled to be held in April-May this year.
