Indian Railways is set to record the best ever performance in its recorded history in terms of the output from the freight business, total revenue and track laying in the Financial year 2023-24, Ministry of Railways said on Friday.
As per the preliminary data, Indian Railways has crossed an originating freight loading of 1500 MT on 15th March, 2024. Previously, IR had achieved the best ever freight loading of 1512 MT during FY 2022-23.
During this FY 2023-24, total revenue of Indian Railways stood at Rs 2.40 lakh crore as on date. Last year on 15th March, total revenue was Rs 2.23 lakh crore, an increment of Rs 17,000 crore. Total Expenditure of Indian Railways stands at Rs 2.26 Lakh Crores in this FY 2023-24.
Total 648 crore passengers travelled during FY 2023-24, an increase of 52 crores when compared to the figures of the same period of last year. Last year, the total number of passengers travelled was 596 crores, the ministry said.
In this Financial Year as on date, Indian Railways has laid 5100 kms of new tracks. In this FY, the average daily track comes out to be more than 14 kms per day.
Sharing the updated data for February, the Indian Railways achieved an improvement of approx 10.13 per cent growth in the freight loading at 136.60 MT over the last year.
Freight revenue of Rs 14,931.89 crore was achieved in February 2024 against Rs 13,700.75 crore in the same month last year, thereby showing an improvement of about 8.98 per cent over the last year.
On a cumulative basis from April 2023 – February 2024, freight loading of 1434.01 MT was achieved by Indian railways against last year’s loading of 1367.5 MT, an improvement of approximately 66.51 MT over last year’s loading for the same period.
Railways has earned Rs 1,55,557.1 crore against Rs 149088.1 crore over the last year which is an improvement of approx Rs 6468.17 Crore, as compared to the same period of the last year.
