The Directorate of Collegiate Education has issued a circular to the regional joint director asking how the campus of Stella Maris College was used for a discussion involving a political leader when Model Code of Conduct is in place.

After Congress President Rahul Gandhi’s interactive programme at the Stella Maris College in Chennai on Wednesday, the Directorate of Collegiate Education has issued a circular to the regional joint director asking how the campus was used for a discussion involving a political leader when Model Code of Conduct is in place.

Rahul Gandhi had on Wednesday interacted with the students of Stella Maris College for Women in Chennai where he made a few political observations, including the supposed manifesto of the UPA government if it is formed after the results of the Lok Sabha elections are out.

Gandhi had said that the UPA government would simplify the procedures in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and have a low single tax rate. He also said that the UPA will reserve 33 per cent government jobs for women and pass the Women’s Reservation Bill giving 33 per cent of seats in the Lok Sabha if it wins the mandate for the 17th Lok Sabha.

He also took a range of questions from the students about Kashmir policy, especially economic growth and bringing peace in Jammu and Kashmir.

On bringing peace back in Jammu and Kashmir, he said the first step was to build the bridge to the people there. It was built between 2004 and 2014 during the UPA government, he said, adding that, “We have to engage with the people of Jammu and Kashmir.”

Meanwhile, it is learnt that the Congress president may contest the Lok Sabha polls from two seats, one from Amethi and the other from Karnataka.
