Congress President Rahul Gandhi compared his party to the Pandavas and BJP-RSS to Kauravas from the Mahabharata at the closing day of the 84th Congress Plenary at New Delhi on Sunday.

Speaking at the massive gathering of Congress sudpporters and leaders, Gandhi recalled the great battle on the historic Kurukshetra and compared his party to the Pandavas and the BJP to the Kauravas.

“The Kauravas were arrogant and drunk with power. They had money, were extremely well-organised and had numbers on their side. They fought a small army led by the Pandavas,” he said.

Reiterating the Congress’ charge that the BJP is arrogant enough to believe they are the greatest, he claimed like the Pandavas, the Congress is humble.

“They had five brothers who had lost everything but unlike the Kauravas they fought for the truth,” said the 47-year-old who was given the authorisation to select the Congress Working Committee (CWC) on Sunday.

“Like the Kauravas, the BJP-RSS are designed to fight for power. Like the Pandavas, the Congress is designed to fight for the truth,” he told amid loud cheers from the gathering.

Underlining that the Mahabharata was a battle for India’s future, Gandhi asked whether “India will live a lie or will face the truth”.

He said that people of the country will expect the BJP leadership to lie because they know what the saffron party is designed for adding that the same people do not expect the same from the Congress because “they understand that this party is a party of truth”.

Gandhi also took a dig at BJP president Amit Shah. “They (BJP) will accept a man accused of murder as the president of the BJP,” he said.

“They (the people) hold us on a higher standard than any other political organisation in this country,” he said adding that the “BJP is a voice of an organisation while the Congress is the voice of a nation”.

He claimed that the corrupt and the powerful completely control the conversation in India.
