Punjab Vigilance Bureau arrests SHO for taking Rs 15,000 bribe

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Thursday registered a corruption case against Inspector Naveen Kumar, posted as Station House Officer (SHO) Ferozepur Cantonment and his gunman Jatinder Gill, a Punjab Home Guard (PHG) volunteer, for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 15,000.

In this case, SHO Naveen Kumar has been arrested and the PHG volunteer is absconding, a spokesperson of the VB said. He said the Inspector has been arrested on the complaint of Lalit Kumar Passi, resident of Ferozepur Cantonment.

Giving details, the spokesperson said the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the above said SHO has demanded Rs 20,000 as a bribe to help him in a police case registered by him against the other party.

The complainant recorded the conversation while the accused was demanding the bribe and submitted it to the VB as evidence to book the accused.

The spokesperson said the VB team from Ferozepur unit laid a trap and arrested the accused SHO for receiving a bribe of Rs 15,000 through his gunman in the presence of two official witnesses. The PHG volunteer received the bribe money on behalf of SHO but escaped. The VB team was hunting for his arrest in this case, he added.
