Protests erupted in the border town of Rajouri on Friday morning after Army jawans allegedly shot dead two civilians and injured another. The victims were reportedly employed in the canteen of the military hospital.
The White Knight Corps of the Army in a tweet, however, claimed that the civilians were shot by terrorists.
A large number of men and women blocked the Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch highway demanding action against the soldiers who opened fire at the three civilians who were proceeding towards the military hospital for their routine duty.
Angry people burnt tyres on the road and raised slogans against those involved in the shooting incident. They demanded registration of FIR against the troops. They have put bodies of the killed persons on the highway.
Top officers were so far maintaining silence on the issue.
The White Knight Corps of the Army tweeted; “In an early morning firing incident by unidentified terrorists at Rajauri near Military Hospital, there has been fatal casualty of two individuals. The Police, security forces and civil administration officials are on the site”.
Reports said that the area has been cordoned by security forces.
Further details are awaited.
