President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday travelled in a Delhi Metro train and interacted with schoolchildren during the ride.
The President boarded the metro train at the Central Secretariat Metro Station on the Kashmere Gate-Raja Nahar Singh Violet Line corridor and travelled up to the Nehru Place Metro Station before travelling back to Central Secretariat, an official said.
During her journey, she interacted with some schoolchildren, said Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) spokesperson Anuj Dayal.
DMRC’s Managing Director Vikas Kumar, who accompanied the President during the ride, apprised her about various facets of DMRC’s functioning. He also informed her about the ongoing construction projects.
The President travelled on the system using an NCMC RuPay card.
“Murmu is the second serving President of India to travel by the Delhi Metro. The then President, Pratibha Patil had also travelled on the Delhi Metro back in 2012,” the official said.
Meanwhile, in a post on X, the President’s Office wrote, “President Droupadi Murmu travelled in Delhi Metro and interacted with school children during the ride.”
She also flagged off shuttle bus service between the Central Secretariat Metro Station (Gate 4) and Amrit Udyan (Gate 35) for visitors coming to Amrit Udyan at every interval of 30 minutes from 9.30 am to 5.00 pm.
