Police officer gunned down by terrorists in paddy field

An off-duty police officer was abducted and killed by terrorists in south Kashmir’s Pampore area on Saturday. The body of Farooq Ahmad Mir, a Jammu and Kashmir Police sub-inspector (ministerial wing) was found in the paddy fields this morning.

It is suspected that terrorists kidnapped the sub-inspector from his home at Samboora in Pampore and killed him in the nearby fields.

Initially, one bullet wound was found near his heart. Police said Mir was posted in the IRP 23rd Battalion at CTC Lethpora and was to retire from service in the next couple of months.

According to Kashmir Zone Police, preliminary investigation revealed that the fallen police officer had left his home for work in his paddy fields yesterday evening, where he was shot dead by terrorists using a pistol.

The body of Farooq Ahmad Mir was found in paddy fields near his home.

The wreath-laying ceremony of the martyr SI was held at Lethpora on Saturday. ADGP Armed SJM Gillani led officers and Jawans and family members of the martyr in paying homage.

Senior Police and CRPF officers were present at the wreath-laying ceremony.

The targeted killing of police officers has been widely condemned by political circles and civil society. m
