Police detain four drug peddlers in Kupwara

The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday detained four drug peddlers in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district. The four have been identified as Reyaz Ahmad Badana, Mudasir Ahmad Piswal, Tanveer Ahmad Raina and Zameer Ahmad Raina. All of them are residents of Amrohie Karnah.

They have been booked under the Public Safety Act (PSA).

Reyaz Badana and Tanveer Raina have been lodged under PSA in District Jail Anantnag while Mudasir Piswal and Zameer Raina have been lodged under PSA in District Jail Baramulla.

On June 13, three alleged drug peddlers were arrested in Jammu and Kashmir with over nine kilograms of poppy in separate incidents. A person named Tariq Ahmed was intercepted in Poonch district and 8.5 kg of poppy was seized from him.

In another incident, a patrolling team intercepted two persons, Bajju Ram Sharma and Ashok Kumar Sharma near Dhaleri Bridge in Jammu district and recovered 840 grams of poppy from them.

In April, the trade with Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) was suspended following reports of Pakistani agencies pumping in weapons, narcotics and currency through the cross-LOC trade routes. Narcotics worth about Rs 300 crore were also seized.

In January, the police arrested two persons in Kupwara and seized 19 kg of brown sugar worth about Rs 80 crore that was being smuggled from Pakistan.
