Congress President-elect Rahul Gandhi maybe avoiding personal attacks on Narendra Modi but his colleagues aren’t. On Tuesday OBC leader Alpesh Thakore, who joined Congress recently said that the Prime Minister eats “imported mushrooms” that cost Rs. 80,000 per piece.

“PM Modi eats imported mushrooms. One mushroom costs Rs.80 thousand and he eats 5 mushrooms a day,” Alpesh Thakore who joined hands with the Congress ahead of Gujarat polls said.

“PM Modi was black like me but he became fair because he is eating imported mushroom since he was CM,” he added.

The bizarre allegation comes barely hours after the Gandhi scion in a press conference in Ahmedabad said that he won’t make any personal comments on Modi as he was the country’s Prime Minister.

Thakore’s statement is all the more surprising as it comes in the wake of senior Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar calling PM Modi “neech” (low born) which was a major embarrassment for the party forcing Aiyar to apologise after Rahul Gandhi’s intervention.

However, PM Modi ensured that he used the abuse to his advantage and repeated it at many public rallies terming it an abuse to Gujaratis and the people of the country.

Congress has in the past bore the brunt of making personal attacks against Modi and while Rahul Gandhi made sure to not repeat the past mistakes it seems his colleagues are determined to derail the Congress campaign with their loose remarks.
