Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday arrived in Varanasi, his parliamentary constituency in Uttar Pradesh, to thank the people for reposing their faith in him in the Lok Sabha elections 2019.
Four days after the BJP returned to power with a massive mandate of 303 seats, the PM arrived in his constituency to offer prayers at the Kashi Vishwanath temple.
Accompanied by BJP chief and Gandhinagar MP Amit Shah and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the PM participated in a special ‘puja’.
This is the fourth time since 2017 that Modi has arrived in Varanasi to pray at the temple. The PM had previously prayed at the temple in March 2017, September 2018 and March 2019.
The PM’s cavalcade passed through the streets of the old city to reach the temple. Throngs of BJP supporters lined both sides of the roads to greet the PM as his convoy navigated the narrow streets. The PM was seen waving to the supporters.
The entire city was decked up for the PM’s visit, his first since winning the Lok Sabha elections a second time. Strings of saffron balloons lined along the route, fluttering gaily in the winds. Artists performed traditional dances in the city ahead of the PM’s visit.
PM Modi arrived in Varanasi from Ahmadabad. He was greeted at the airport by Governor Ram Naik, CM Adityanath, Shah and other BJP leaders.
Contesting for the second time from Varanasi, the PM won by a record margin of 4.8 lakh votes.
He will, later today, address a gathering of workers of the BJP.
On Sunday, the PM was in Gujarat to meet his mother Heeraben. He sought her blessings after leading the BJP to a massive victory in the Lok Sabha polls.
