PM Modi launches projects worth Rs 45,000 crore during daylong J-K visit

During his daylong tour of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated, laid foundation of, and launched projects worth about Rs45,000 crore.

He laid the foundation stone of AIIMS Vijaypur and AIIMS Awantipora. Setting up new AIIMS’ would transform the health care facilities, health education, and training in the region.

He also laid the foundation stone of the Northern Regional Centre Campus of Indian Institute of Mass Communication at Jammu, the first ever university in Ladakh, and digitally launched various projects under the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA).

Modi laid the foundation stone of 54 new Model Degree Colleges, 11 Professional Colleges, and 1 Women’s University in the country. He inaugurated 16 Model Degree Colleges, 66 Entrepreneurship, Innovation & Career Hubs in the country. Of these, 3 Model Degree Colleges are in J&K at Kishtwar, Kupwara, and Baramulla. He also laid the foundation stone of Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Career Hub at the University of Jammu.

He dedicated the University Institute of Engineering & Technology, Kathua and laid the foundation stone for the construction of Transit accommodation for Kashmiri migrant employees in Kashmir valley.

PM declared 100% electrification of households in the State of Jammu and Kashmir under SAUBHAGYA Scheme.

He laid the foundation stone of the 624 MW Kiru Hydroelectric project in Kishtwar. It is a run of river project across River Chenab and once completed, the project will generate 2272 million units of electricity annually. He inaugurated the 9 MW Dah Hydroelectric project. Located in Dah near village Datang, this project is a run-of–a-river scheme by Jammu & Kashmir State Power Development Corporation Limited.

Aimed at meeting the electricity crisis in Kashmir and Ladakh, the PM dedicated to the nation 220 KV Srinagar-Alusteng-Drass-Kargil–Leh transmission system. The foundation stone of this prestigious project was also laid by him in August 2014.

A 400 KV Jalandhar-Samba-Rajouri-Shopian-Amargarh (Sopore) transmission line was also dedicated to the nation by PM. The project has augmented the grid connectivity in Jammu & Kashmir.

The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone of a 1640 metre span double lane bridge over River Chenab at Sajwal. The project will provide an alternative route for the population of Sajwal and Indri Pattian. With the completion of this bridge, the distance between Sajwal and Indri Pattian will be reduced to 5 km from the current 47 km.

PM also laid the foundation of the project aimed at reducing pollution of Rivers Devika in Udhampur and Tawi in Jammu under the National River Conservation Plan (NRCP). In Leh, he laid the foundation stone of the new terminal building of Kushok Bakula Rimpoche (KBR) Airport. The new terminal will be a modular, energy efficient, and self-sustaining building of 18,985 sq. metres.
