Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted the crowd witnessing the Republic Day parade on Saturday at Rajpath by breaking protocol.

The PM crossed the Rajpath to the side where the crowds were present and walked a short distance while waving at them after the completion of the ceremony.

Chants of “Modi, Modi” were heard as enthusiastic people jostled to get a glimpse of the Prime Minister from up close. People were seen clicking pictures of the PM with their mobile phones and cameras.

Some came close to the barricades to greet PM Modi.

The PM’s security personnel followed him closely as well as his motorcade.

The Prime Minister started his walk soon after President Ram Nath Kovind and his South African counterpart and chief guest at the Republic Day parade, Cyril Ramaphosa, left Rajpath.

Modi has undertaken similar walks earlier too.

He broke his security cover after last year’s Independence Day speech at the Red Fort when he stepped out of his car to meet school children.

The PM is also known to break protocol to meet and greet people during his tours.

Earlier today, the PM greeted the nation on the occasion of the 70th Republic Day. He paid tributes at the Amar Jawan Jyoti before heading to Rajpath for the ceremony.
