The people of India felt a wave of relief on Wednesday when it was announced that the petrol and diesel prices have been cut by 50-60 paise per litre each.

However, it was major technical glitch. While the Indian Oil Corp’s (IOC) website initially showed a fall of around 50-60 paise per litre, it was soon clarified that the actual price cut was just 1 paisa a litre.

“There was a technical glitch in posting the selling prices of petrol and diesel on our website today. The selling prices of petrol and diesel w.e.f. (with effect from)May 30, 2018 have been rectified on our website. Today, there is a minor reduction in fuel prices,” a spokesperson with company clarified.

After continuous hike in petrol and diesel prices for the last 16 days, since the Karnataka Assembly elections, cut of 1 paise per litle has actually come as a shock to people.

The Twitter parade switched on its sarcastic mode as they went on criticising the move.

Here are some of the reactions:

As per the revised rates, the petrol prices on Wednesday stood at Rs 78.42, Rs 81.05, Rs 86.23 and Rs 81.42 per litre, respectively, in Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai.

It is expected that the prices will fall further as crude oil prices have eased internationally.
