Patanjali’s research on herbo-mineral medicine, Melanogrit, has secured a coveted spot on the cover page of Bioscience Reports, a prestigious international research journal under the auspices of the UK-based Biochemical Society.
With a century-long legacy, the Biochemical Society has earned renown for contributing to biological sciences and advocating for government policies. Patanjali’s success in this esteemed journal is a testament to the global recognition of Ayurveda’s efficacy in addressing complex health issues.
Acharya Balkrishna, leading the efforts at Patanjali Yogpeeth, described this accomplishment as a significant milestone. The research focused on skin white patches, commonly associated with vitiligo and leucoderma, utilizing Ayurvedic principles. Melanogrit, a herbo-mineral medicine, demonstrated remarkable therapeutic potential by enhancing melanin production in B16F10 cells responsible for melanogenesis.

Acharya Balkrishna elucidated the scientific aspects of the study, emphasizing Melanogrit’s effectiveness in upregulating key melanogenesis pathway genes such as MITF, TYR, and TRP1. This led to a noticeable increase in cellular tyrosine activity. The medicine also exhibited the ability to enhance MITF translational levels by inhibiting pERK, showcasing its multifaceted impact.
Patanjali, renowned for its holistic approach to healthcare, has been successfully treating vitiligo and leucoderma patients for years. The international recognition of its research is a validation of the cellular mechanisms underlying Ayurvedic treatments, earning acknowledgment from the UK and the global scientific community.
This achievement not only marks a triumph for Patanjali but also signifies a celebration of India’s profound knowledge, scientific prowess, and commitment to research. Once considered incurable, vitiligo and leucoderma are now effectively addressed, reinforcing India’s standing as a global leader in ancient wisdom, a prominent force in contemporary times, and a frontrunner poised for sustained leadership in the future.
