Pakistan on Thursday summoned Indian Deputy High Commissioner JP Singh hours after reports suggested that three Pakistani soldiers were killed in retaliatory firing by the BSF to avenge the death of one of its troopers.
As per the Pakistan Foreign Office, Director General (South Asia and SAARC) Mohammad Faisal summoned Singh and condemned the alleged ceasefire violation by the Indian forces.
Border Security Force (BSF) Head Constable A Suresh was injured in the overnight shelling by Pakistan Rangers on the international border in Jammu and Kashmir. He later succumbed to his injuries in a hospital.
A 14-year-old local girl too died in the unprovoked firing on Indian positions that began at around 10.30 pm.
The Indian side retaliated effectively and destroyed two mortar locations on the Pakistani side. Firing exchanges continued for hours.
Director General of BSF, KK Sharma said there could have been a possibility of infiltration but the troopers foiled the bid by the Pakistani side.
“We retaliated effectively which led to damage on that (Pakistan) side. BSF never starts it but when they do, we make sure we take strong action. Martyrdom of Head Constable Suresh will not go in vain,” Sharma said.
Following heightened tension in the area, all schools within a five kilometer radius of the international border in Jammu district have been closed by the authorities.
The Pakistan Foreign Office had on January 15 too summoned Singh to protest the deaths of four of its soldiers in firing across the Line of Control.
