A day before Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s visit to Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district, a policeman was killed and two others injured on Saturday when militants attacked them in the town, police said.
The policemen were on routine duties at the Anantnag bus stand when they were attacked.
“Constable Imtiyaz Ahmad was killed and two other policemen have been injured,” a police official said, adding that the injured policemen have been shifted to hospital and the area surrounded for searches.
The attack came as Rajnath Singh is on a four-day visit to the state. The Minister is scheduled to address policemen in the Anantnag Police Lines and Central Reserve Police Force troopers in Khanabal area of the district on Sunday.
