Omar Abdullah condemns Shopian school bus attack, terms stone-pelters as ‘goons’

Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah on Wednesday, while condemning the attack on a school bus termed stone-pelters as “goons”, and added that they are misusing the amnesty granted to them.

Two students were injured as a school bus was attacked in Zavoora area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district by stone-pelters on Wednesday.

In a series of tweets Omar Abdullah condemned saying, “The amnesty granted to stone-pelters was meant to encourage more reasonable behaviour but some of these goons are determined to use the opportunity given to them to just pelt more stones”.

“How does pelting stones on schoolchildren or tourist buses help advance the agenda of these stone-pelters? These attacks deserve our unequivocal condemnation & this tweet is mine,” said Abdullah in a tweet.

Shopian district was observing a shutdown against the killing of two militants, including a commander Sameer Tiger, and a civilian in an encounter at Drabgam in neighbouring Pulwama district.

School bus attack

According to media reports, the bus, which came under attack of the miscreants, belonged to Rainbow International School.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shopian, Shalender Kumar Mishra, while talking to media said that the school bus was attacked by miscreants with stones near Zavoora village.

The police have taken cognisance of the incident and investigation is being conducted.

One of the students, who sustained injuries, is critical and has been referred to Srinagar hospital for specialised treatment.

Earlier in the day, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti took to Twitter and condemned the incident.
